S410 -Day #10
Starter for Ten - April 15th 2023
Earlier this year I decided to take a break from drinking alcohol, it feels good. I find myself thinking a lot about why we choose to drink and hangovers. I don’t miss those! Disclaimer: The story, pictured, is fictional and not about my husband (he wanted me to make that clear, which made me laugh).
Ten minutes of free writing.
After writing, I video called my sister Louise, aka, Kapow Meow. My nephews were there and we did ten minutes of drawing together. We set the timer and decided what we were going to draw. The boys instantly knew what they were going to draw. Mario! A mushroom! Louise and I panicked. She ran around the room looking for inspiration and grabbed a shoe. I settled on drawing a rabbit rollerskating. One of sister goals for this year is to go to a roller disco so it made sense to me.
Video call: ten minute creative party the kitten wanted to join in
We all chatted as we drew, it was fun to do something together even though we are miles apart. I loved what the boys created and was amazed at how little resistance they had to the challenge and how calm they were.
Drawing a robot mario from memory
A mushroom and time left over to draw more!
As always I’m jealous of my sisters awesome illustration style, I can’t believe she created that in ten minutes! Love the loose feel.
Louise’s ten minute sketch in pencil and pen
Love this girl!
My sketch didn’t turn out the way I saw it in my mind. Not using a reference, I couldn’t figure out how the body should be positioned and I couldn’t remember how to draw stoppers on skates. The bunny I drew from a previous challenge made an appearance, this character seems to be sticking around and doing healthy things. Maybe it’s a gym bunny?
Ten minute visual - pencil and black felt tip
We all were having fun and continued to draw together after the timer stopped. I finished the outline of roller bunny. It’s a bit crap but I loved the process and spending time with my family.
My sister is an inspiration to me, she creates everything from illustration, to design, to clothes and more. Make her day and follow her on instagram: instagram.com/kapow_meow
Starter for Ten (S410) is a daily creative exercise that I will do for the next 30 days. I set a ten-minute timer and write whatever comes into my head. After that I do the same to create a visual. The idea is to loosen up, create daily and get over the idea that everything I make needs to be perfect or have a purpose.
I will document the process here on this site and on my Instagram stories. Photos will be unedited to keep it real. This challenge both terrifies and excites me, let’s see what happens.
