S410 -Day #11
Starter for Ten - April 16th 2023
I have a confession, I just couldn’t make the challenge a priority today. Instead I went to the park to train, enjoyed a 3 hour walk in nature with a friend, played sudoko for an hour, basically did everything I could to trick myself into thinking it was ok not to write or create. It got to 9pm and I suddenly thought future Yo is going to be annoyed, just do something, anything!
Ten minutes of free writing.
Ten minutes of creative writing inspired my internal battle this evening. I’m working on being curious in reaction to my inner critic and learning to be kinder to myself. I like the line ‘Making rubbish doesn’t make you rubbish’ it made me laugh.
Sketch: Black pen with oil pastel
To make life easy I decided to sketch what was in front of me. I couldn’t quite tell if my husband was watching the documentary on tv or if he was asleep. Either way he didn’t move at all which was useful. I did the drawing in one continous line without lifting the pen from the paper, it looked better in just black and white but I forgot to take a photo of it at that stage. I like that it doesn’t look perfect.
Starter for Ten (S410) is a daily creative exercise that I will do for the next 30 days. I set a ten-minute timer and write whatever comes into my head. After that I do the same to create a visual. The idea is to loosen up, create daily and get over the idea that everything I make needs to be perfect or have a purpose.
I will document the process here on this site and on my Instagram stories. Photos will be unedited to keep it real. This challenge both terrifies and excites me, let’s see what happens.
