S410 -Day #27
Starter for Ten - May 2nd 2023
This morning I had to catch a train to a meeting, I arrived early and took the opportunity to write while waiting. I love writing outdoors, it feels like freedom.
Ten minutes of free writing.
Most artists create a self-portrait so I thought I would have a go. In the ten minutes I managed to crank out three, all terrible!
I spent the first six minutes on the first image, it’s all out of proportion and I don’t know why I didn’t add nostrils. The style is graphic which I kind of like. At this point I had my hair up which was tough to draw so I took it down for the next sketch.
Six minute sketch: black posca pen
Something weird happened when drawing the second sketch the pen bled a bit which I went with. I decided to over exaggerate the nose and once I did that I decided to just do whatever the pen wanted. Everything is in the wrong place but I like that it looks messy and manic.
Three minute sketch: black posca pen
For the last minute of the challenge I went minimal to keep within time and the result made me laugh, whats that mouth all about?.
Ah well, although these look nothing like me it was fun to draw. I definitely need to practice drawing people and more than ten minutes to execute!
Starter for Ten (S410) is a daily creative exercise that I will do for the next 30 days. I set a ten-minute timer and write whatever comes into my head. After that I do the same to create a visual. The idea is to loosen up, create daily and get over the idea that everything I make needs to be perfect or have a purpose.
I will document the process here on this site and on my Instagram stories. Photos will be unedited to keep it real. This challenge both terrifies and excites me, let’s see what happens.
