Sunday post #16

‘I’ve been told my logo is $#*! How do I make it better?’ Great question VS+YO explored with a new client recently. How do you know if your logo works if you don’t know what makes a logo work? Five questions to reflect on:

1. Does your logo look modern?

Typography, colour, and design choices that are on-trend at the time can quickly date and make your logo and business look old-fashioned. Your logo should look simple and timeless.

2. Does your logo work?

Your logo should be practical and look clear across all media, digital and print, be legible at any scale, and be recognisable in both single and full colour. If you get feedback from your designer that they are forced to make design decisions due to your logo, like always putting the logo on a white background or box, it’s a sign that your logo needs a bit of work.

3. Does your logo have meaning?

Your logo is the simplest expression of who you are as a business and what you do. You should understand why it looks the way it does. It should represent and inspire you, your team, and your customers and tell your story.

4. Does your logo stand out from the competition?

A logo that stands out from the competition is memorable. Have a look at the design of your competitor’s logos (your customers do) and ask yourself, if, in comparison, you are standing out for the right reasons.

5. Does your logo inspire your audience?

This was the aha moment for our client this week. While her existing logo design works, and she likes it, the design doesn’t align with the customers she wants to attract. Your logo should engage with the audience you are looking to serve.

Yoshan update

We have been pushing forward with our card game ALAN. On my to do list this week was to create a storyboard for the gameplay video rules for the game. We also did some more play-testing, more on that next week.

Go outside challenge

Two weeks worth of going outside evidence photos, the briefs were doors and sky. On the lookout for interesting doors, I found myself looking for tiny doors but couldn’t find any. I’m still on the hunt.
I’m getting consistent with the challenge of going outside every day now. Looking to take the challenge up a notch this week with a trip up Ben Nevis, the UK’s tallest mountain. Equal parts scared and excited.
