Sunday post #20
One of the best things about designing for business is that I’m always learning from my clients and work. This week I learned:
You don’t know what you don’t know
I reached out to a supplier to quote for the print of a double-sided jigsaw puzzle.
It turns out that suppliers in the UK only print single-sided, if you want double-sided puzzles America or China are your best bet. There is a very niche business idea for someone in the UK.
You can reprogramme your brain
Dr. Frank Corrigan, a Glaswegian Psychiatrist, has developed a way of processing trauma without revisiting it or even talking about it. It’s called Deep Brain Reorientating learn about it here.
Associated companies tax rule
It’s tax return time for my business and I’m learning that corporation tax is no longer as straightforward as I have shares in the Yoshan business. Enter the associated companies tax rule.
Designers working solo need support
All designers get stuck sometimes, Vicki and I supported two designers who are the only designers in a business to get unstuck this week. Sometimes all that is needed is a call, fresh energy, and a bit of direction.
Inspiration mission
The Cybertruck was in Glasgow this week, it might surprise people who know I’m not a car girl, but I had to go and see it. I learned that it’s big and stupid and I know I probably shouldn’t but I love it. It will be interesting to see how they adapt the design for the UK market, it was freaking huge the overall width was 2.413m almost as wide as a bus.
I mortified my husband by asking the staff to open all the doors and tell me all about the design of the truck. If you don’t ask you don’t get.
Go outside challenge
This week’s photo brief for evidence of getting outside every day was: Circles. I’m now in the flow with going outside daily but inconsistent with taking photos. This week I confess some days I took a few and others none but had enough for the seven photos for the week. I need to think of a way to energise the project. Any ideas?
